Driving in Saddle Ridge
The roads of Saddle Ridge are shared by many: property owners and their visitors, hikers, pets, and wildlife. We are a gated community which means our roads are private and traffic is limited. This restriction, and a speed limit of 20 mph, help to maintain the safety of everyone and the quiet, peaceful nature of Saddle Ridge.
Our gravel roads and rugged terrain are fragile and speeds over 20 mph and unnecessary or reckless driving can severely damage the roads. This damage must be repaired and is our single largest expenditure each year of your annual assessment. Motorcycles and trailers are not allowed on Saddle Ridge roads because of the damage these vehicles cause to roads, the noise they generate, and the additional safety hazards associated with them. ATVs, UTVs, or other utility vehicles should be used on the roads as little as possible for the same reasons.
It is important that all vehicles used on Saddle Ridge roads be operated at speeds of 20 mph or less. Slower speeds are encouraged when approaching other vehicles, hikers, pets, and other wildlife, and whenever roads are especially dusty. Use 4 wheel drive or all wheel drive to minimize road damage.
In addition, we want all property owners to be aware that Saddle Ridge shares a border with the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. You will see the boundary markers for the National Park Service (NPS) if you turn on Park Spur at either end or at the end of Sky Top. The NPS prohibits the use of all vehicles on their property.
